Client: The Governors of Langley Grammar School

Contract Duration: 42 weeks

Our client was awarded the main contract by the school’s governors to construct a new sports hall with associated changing facilities and drama studio, a new eight classroom two storey teaching block and a single storey extension to an existing science laboratory.

Stonehouse Consultants were commissioned by our client to undertake the on site quantity surveying duties which included;

  • Preparation of sub-contract procurement programme in line with main construction programme
  • Sub-contract enquiries, tender analysis and procurement
  • Sub-contract account management up to and including settlement of final account
  • Cost engineering in line with clients budget requirements
  • Costing of variations for incorporation into final account
  • Re-measurement of all works for incorporation into final account
  • Main contract final account forecasting
  • Cash flow forecasts for main contract
  • Main contract interim valuations up to and including final account agreement
  • Monthly cost / value reconciliation
  • Preparation and agreement with client’s professional team of fully substantiated extension of time claim and associated costs.

The project was successfully completed in line with the extended construction programme and forecast final account reports forwarded on a regular basis to the client. Through close financial management of both cost and value the project was a commercial success yielding a return to our client in excess of tender expectations and in accordance with cost / value reconciliation reports.

Stonehouse Consultants Services were employed on a £3m project at Langley Grammar School.  Stonehouse provided Quantity Surveying and Commericial Management services on this project from our commencement until completion and the final account.  This included sub-contract procurement, valuations and payment; main contract valuations and negotiations over variations and additional work; and internal cost/value managment processes.

The project  tender expectation was a 5% return but Stonehouse through detailed and precise commercial management returned 20%.

Subsequently Stonehouse carried out the second stage tender negotiations on a £6m private residence in Berkshire, up to and including agreement of the contract sum and terms;  post contract services have been provided as above, the project is due to end April 2010.

Stonehouse have always worked and represented Beard in a very professional manner to a high standard and I will have no hesitation in engaging Stonehouse in the future or recommending them to others.
